The fiery reds, oranges and darkened skies serve as a powerful reminder of the fragile balance between humanity and nature, underscoring the urgent need for collective action to address this growing crisis.

This suite of paintings on paper draws inspiration from research into prehistoric oceans, using carefully developed palette of colours. Over 650 million years ago, Earth’s ancient oceans were a rosy hue, not the blue we recognise today. This pink colour, created by the diluted pigments of ancient cyanobacteria, is considered the world’s oldest known colour. These cyanobacteria were a dominant life form in Earth’s waters. Intertwined with the pinks are greens inspired by the modern era of bottle-making, referencing the romantic history of messages discovered in bottles. Asemic writing, inscribed across the surface, introduces a wordless, open form of expression without inherent meaning, inviting the viewer to explore and interpret their own narrative within the image.
